Chris Power Seminar

With
David Williamson
Chris Power is a true underground sleight‑of‑hand legend from London, revered for his slow, deliberate handling, his laconic wit, and his ability to make extremely difficult moves look like nothing at all.

Chris Power is one of London’s most respected underground sleight‑of‑hand artists, a magician’s magician whose work has quietly influenced serious students for decades. Best known for his elegant card magic and his signature Coins Through Silk, he has built a reputation for routines that look completely casual while being technically formidable under the hood.
For years, Chris was at the center of the British close‑up and sessioning scene, co‑running the influential Opus magazine and helping document and shape the European magic underground. His magic made such an impression that even Dai Vernon is on record as being “hugely impressed” by his work—no small feat for a man who had seen everything.
What sets Chris apart is his pacing and persona. He has developed a way of performing knuckle‑busting sleight of hand that perfectly fits his laid‑back, laconic character. He moves so slowly and so casually that audiences relax, let their guard down, and then find themselves utterly fooled when the miracles land. He is cunning and deliberate in both speech and action, always playing the long game in how he structures his close‑up pieces.
Within the London magic community he’s known as a kind of high priest of the laid‑back style: a performer who proves that you don’t need to be loud, frenetic, or edgy to create deep astonishment. Instead, his work shows how quiet confidence, precise handling, and patience can be just as disarming.
In this Sleight School Seminar, Chris teaches some of his favorite techniques and routines, including his invisible fan steal, his one‑handed bottom palm, his take on card under box, and his celebrated Coins Through Silk. More than just a move class, this session opens a window into how he thinks about timing, audience management, and building multi‑phase routines that reward repeat viewing and deep study.
For students who care about real‑world sleight‑of‑hand and the art of the slow burn, this seminar is an essential addition to the library.
